India Emerges as Global Electronics Manufacturing Powerhouse, Targets Second-Largest Exporter Status

India has become the world’s sixth-largest electronics exporter, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said while inaugurating Jabil’s new facility in Pune. The government plans to expand semiconductor manufacturing, strengthen supply chains and accelerate exports, while Maharashtra continues to attract major technology and infrastructure investments.

India has established itself as a major global electronics manufacturing hub and has become the world’s sixth-largest exporter of electronics, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday while inaugurating the new manufacturing facility of US-based company Jabil at Ranjangaon MIDC in Pune.

Addressing the gathering, Vaishnaw said India has undergone a remarkable transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, evolving into a leading global destination for electronics manufacturing. He noted that products manufactured in India are now being exported to markets across the world and expressed confidence that the country is on track to become the world’s second-largest electronics exporter in the coming years.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen the domestic technology ecosystem, the minister said two semiconductor plants are currently under development in the country. He added that the number of semiconductor facilities will increase to four by the end of the year, further accelerating India’s ambitions in advanced manufacturing and technology production.

Vaishnaw also announced plans to begin manufacturing mechanical precision parts in Pune, a move aimed at strengthening the electronics and semiconductor supply chain. He credited Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for implementing land reforms that have played a significant role in attracting major investments to the state and creating a favourable environment for industrial growth.

He emphasized that Maharashtra remains the preferred destination for technology-driven and infrastructure-related investments due to its strong industrial ecosystem and growth-oriented policies.

Referring to the upcoming Wadhvan Port project, he said the port is expected to rank among the world’s ten largest ports and will substantially enhance transportation networks, export-import operations and industrial development.
